WHAT
Fuera de Fase is an Oigovisiones Label project dedicated to showcasing off-the-radar musical styles through curated live listening sessions.
Its second edition landed at Teatro Cánovas (Málaga) in spring of 2025—a much-welcomed return, years after its first run at La Caverna de Amores between 2016 and 2018. Kitty Soul treated a sizable audience of friends and fellow music aficionados to an evening of live vinyl sessions spanning chefs-d’œuvre from early electronic and post-rock music to ambient and drone landscapes.
Among the artists that brought down the curtain on Fuera de Fase’s 2025 edition at Teatro Cánovas (Málaga), I performed as a live visual artist alongside ambient musician Pepo Galán.
HOW
The visuals for this live performance were an atonal light-and-shadow play that:
CONCEPT
reflected on love and the passing of time , with illness and the physical loss of loved ones as its conceptual backdrop.
A visual poem about what remains of our beloved when they depart—their bodies, their remembrance, c’est-à-dire, the images we carry in our minds and those captured on photographic and videographic media. These fleeting traces transform into blurry, ghostly loops that distort and dissolve the appearance they once had.
AESTHETICS
a free-flowing cascade of visual passages unfolding to the tempo of Pepo Galán’s open-ended music, which I heard for the first time as we performed together on stage.
Leaden and melancholic when dark, and abrasive as a bleach bath when bright, this visual set was written and edited over several months, merging literary references—Han Kang’s The White Book and Marguerite Duras' L'Amant —with film appropriations drawn from experimental films such as Meshes of the Afternoon by Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid and Nos Stars by Maurice Lemaître, along with amateur videos shot in 16mm found online.
At its core, Fuera de Fase is a labor of love —a space to rediscover the collective pleasure of gathering in an intimate, dimly lit setting to listen to music through an immersive sound system.
VISUALS
Although deliberately a work of quotation and appropriation, this project is born out of a love for cinema and experimental literature , created from the same amateur perspective and minimalist creative spirit that defines some of the works it draws from.
